Today, I was surprised today to learn that a long time friend, Alaina Shearer, is running for Congress in the Ohio 12th Congressional district. The Ohio 12th Congressional district is gerrymandered like the rest of the state and takes the suburbs of the north and east part of Columbus and adds them to rural parts of the state and some rustbelt towns like Mansfield and Zanesville. The current incumbent Troy Balderson got in there on a special election by 1680 votes (Green party candidate took 1165). The Cook report rated this as a toss-up in 2018. The result was the Republican squeaked by with 51.4% of the vote winning by 14,426 votes (Green party took 4718).
If anyone can win this district, it is Alaina.
I have been a member of Daily Kos for over fifteen years (UID 5705) but mostly I just lurk and read articles. I have supported a variety of candidates financially and through activism. This is the first candidate I personally know. I think knowing someone’s character outside of politics is important, and I am vouching for Alaina Shearer.
She is a professional and expert at digital marketing. May Ohio get our own version of AOC who is digital savvy, asks hard questions, and doesn’t take anyone BS.
She is a small business owner and knows the pain of paying $2400 a month for health insurance before even going to a doctor. I think that since she knows firsthand the dysfunction in our system, she is more likely to fix it.
And she is the mom of 4 which right there is impressive to me. But more importantly is in this for the future generations and not just giving lip service or going to be in there for special interests. I’m sure without the Trump mess that she would likely just be continuing her efforts to expand women in digital marketing.
The Cook Report currently rates this as Leans Republican but I think Balderson knows he is in trouble as he is hedging on the whole Trump impeachment thing by saying
the “the allegations against the president are “serious and concerning.” The representative said he looks forward to “reviewing all available information so Congress may address the situation based on the facts presented to us.”
Consider sending Alaina a donation. Every winnable Congress seat helps secure Congress as well as will help whoever the eventual nominee is win in Ohio.
