Wisconsin jobs are off by a monthly average of 107.9 thousand from 2000 to 2010, but that looks tiny compared to Ohio, where jobs dropped 603 thousand from 2000 to 2010. The population of Ohio is just about double Wisconsin but Ohio had 6 times the job losses of Wisconsin. Note (1)
Ohio state and local government including public education is up by 5 thousand jobs, but losses to federal jobs in Ohio exactly offset the gains. Ohio has 785 thousand government jobs in 2010, exactly what it had in 2000, even though total jobs dropped from 5.6 to 5 million.
Like all the states health care jobs were up: 134 thousand. Private education added 19 thousand statewide jobs and a third sector defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics to report jobs for offices of holding companies and corporate, subsidiary and regional managing offices added 23 thousand jobs for a total increase of 175 thousand new jobs for 2000 to 2010.
