Received this e-mail today from actor Martin Sheen (AKA Josiah Bartlett from NBC’s The West Wing) in support of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D. OH) re-election campaign:
A very smart writer once gave me these words: Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
I want to amend that today to add: ...or the course of a campaign.
My hometown Senator, Sherrod Brown, is fighting in what will be one of the closest Senate elections in the country.
Sherrod is an incredible public servant. He's smart, he's beholden to no interests but those of his constituents, and he stands up for his progressive values.
I'm not a politician. I'm not a president. I'm just a guy from Dayton, Ohio.
I'm the son of immigrants. My dad was from Spain and my mother from Ireland. They met in citizenship school in Dayton, Ohio.
My career wouldn't have been possible without opportunity -- the opportunity my parents came to this country to find, for themselves and for us.
It's painful to me, and so many other immigrants, to think that families like mine may not be able to find that same opportunity in America today.
Sherrod fights for working families. He fights for farmers and factory workers, teachers and tradesmen, and every hardworking person in between.
And this month, we can do something to fight for him.
Thank you and God bless.
Martin
