As previously diaried, Ohio's government employees are facing the same union-busting legislation as Wisconsin's workers, supported by another Teabagger Governor whose election bid was funded by Koch Industries and Rupert Murdoch. S.B. 5, introduced by Shannon Jones (R), is currently sitting in the Insurance, Commerce, and Labor Committee, of which Sen. Jones is a member. The next committee hearing is Tuesday, February 22, at 4:00 pm. It will be the fourth hearing on this bill.
S.B. 5 affects roughly 37,000 public safety workers (police and firefighters), 38,000 public school employees, and another 35,000 state, county, and local government employees.
According to a January Quinnipiac poll, voters in Ohio oppose such a bill 51-34% (15% don't know/no opinion). Only 50% of Republican-identified voters supported it. Fully 71% of Democrat-identified voters opposed it (and yet 19% supported it, WTF?).
