Okay, this is interesting. It looks like Ted Cruz was onto something with this "vote your conscience" business:
As Donald Trump and the Republican delegates prepare to close out their party convention in Cleveland, a new Suffolk University poll of Ohio voters shows the race a dead heat in the Buckeye State, with Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump tied at 44 percent and 11 percent undecided.
The battleground state of Ohio has earned a reputation as a bellwether for how the nation votes in presidential elections, with a long history of picking the ultimate winner.
In a four-way scenario, with Green Party nominee Jill Stein and Libertarian Gary Johnson added into the mix, Clinton edges Trump 43 percent to 39 percent in Ohio, with Johnson getting 5 percent, Stein 1 percent and 12 percent undecided.
Sadly for Donald but happily for the nation, actual Republican Gary Johnson will be on the ballot in November and it might just cost him a swing state or seven. And Trump can't afford to lose any swing states.
It must also be noted that this poll was conducted right in the thick of #RNCinCLE (Mon-Wed), and it sure looks like Trump's not getting any bump so far in the convention's home state. Check out this four-way poll from last week:
Whether Republicans "voting their conscience" means voting for Clinton or Johnson probably won't matter much. A dramatic Hillary landslide will be the result either way.
Thanks, Ted!
