Michigan isn't the only state where the economy has benefited hugely from the revival of the auto industry; in Ohio, thousands of workers are getting bonus checks ranging from $1,500 to $7,000, and Toledo is getting 1,100 new jobs. So Mitt Romney's desire to "let Detroit go bankrupt" will resonate in Ohio as well as Michigan, and AFSCME is making sure Ohio voters don't forget about Romney's position. The public sector union is spending $350,000 in Ohio on the ad above.
Previously, AFSCME put $1 million into advertising against Romney in Florida, emphasizing his involvement, during his time at Bain Capital, with a company that committed Medicare fraud. As the choice of the key swing states of Florida and Ohio for major expenditures in the Republican primary highlights, AFSCME is looking to define Romney negatively before the general election season even kicks off. If it can weaken him in the primaries and draw out the primaries, so much the better, but these ads aren't solely intended to have an effect on the primary.
