To my surprise...

No, make that my amazement.  To my astonished, surprised, and happy wonderment, it looks nearly for certain that SB5 is going down in Ohio.  I was sure that all the anti-public-sector folklore would win the day, but I underestimated my home state.  Rarely has it felt so great to be wrong.

Restored is my faith in Ohio as a purple state, a place where the political middle rules.  There's a lot of middle-hatred going around these days on the left, but don't knock the center, as it sure as hell beats living in the red.  Or so I'm so often assured.

We've been noticing "No on Issue 2" (i.e., no to SB5) signs all over the yards of our rural township, and--while they're not the dominant sight--they're holding their own.

I shouldn't be surprised.  Look at our thug governor's low, low approval ratings.  Check out our capital city, one of the most gay-friendly spots in the country--a city which boasts a highly competent and highly popular African American mayor.  It's time to swap some of my cynicism for a thankful outlook.  Go, Buckeye State!
