Admittedly, I don't know much about Ohio, but I thought it would be fun to try to draw a fair, community-based map of Ohio. Where one major city could fit in a single district and dominate it, I tried to draw a district around it, such as my Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati districts. Where two cities could, I tried that, such as my Dayton-Springfield district or my Canton-Akron district. Some districts are mainly smaller cities. I tried to divide counties little, and I think only three districts have parts of three divided counties in it.
I tried to create districts that made sense to me as communities of interest from looking at the map. I drew urban districts, suburban districts, and districts with small cities and rural areas. A few districts turned out to be strongly Republican or Democratic, but many look like they could be competitive, and I saw this as a good thing.
I did not attempt to keep a VRA district in Cleveland, as I felt that a compact and community-based district was more important.
This is intended as a learning experience for me. If you can give me some constructive criticism, I'd appreciate it.
