I recently spent a week in the hospital with my mother. For a week, I watch dedicated, caring, generous women and men offer my mother a level of care I thought didn’t exist in our medical system. Every single person who walked into her room came in with a smile, listened to her and our concerns, answered our questions, and treated my mother with immense care. They handled her physical needs with amazing generosity and dignity. And they tended to her emotional needs as well, laughing with her, encouraging her, and assuring her that all of this was temporary and she would be back on her feet in no time. They not only did their jobs, they went far beyond. Thankfully, Mom is now home and well on her way to a full recovery.
A few more examples and then the challenge after the fold.
