Rep. Eleanor Espling (R-New Gloucester) has introduced a bill that essentially places a 24-hour waiting period on a woman seeking an abortion.
Espling's bill, An Act To Educate Women on the Medical Risks Associated with Abortion (LD924), would mandate several things:
* It would repeal existing law that requires a physician who would perform an abortion to "inform the woman, in a manner that in the physician's professional judgment is not misleading and that will be understood by the patient" that she is pregnant, what week her pregnancy is in, the technique to be used and its associated risks, and should the patient request it, alternatives to having an abortion (§1599-A.2);* Require an abortion provider to give their patient a written brochure at least 24 hours ahead of time;
* Require the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to create the brochure noted above.
I don't know of any other legal medical procedure that on which such requirements are placed.
