Michigan reinvent itself? Apparently not.

Since eyeballs are currently on Michigan's governor Rick Snyder I'm going to take this opportunity to point out yet another way Snyder is turning Michigan back toward the path of ruin. He has no plan and no mechanism for diversifying Michigan's economy beyond the auto industry.

He's turning us back toward a path we've already been down, a path his Republican mentor John Engler failed to diverge from, and a path that the previous Democratic Governor, Jennifer Granholm, worked so hard to change with some early success.

For most of a century the average Michigander has known that Michigan's economy needed to DIVERSIFY...because Michigan's economy has always risen and fallen with the success or failure of the Domestic auto industry. And that's because they're FRIGGIN HUGE businesses that eclipse all others in Michigan. Were it not for such a monolithic reliance on the domestic auto industry, Michigan would have an economy like most other states with moderate swings in unemployment instead of the constant high spikes and deep valleys.
