Another black eye for my state.
At the urging of Gov. for Life Snyder, the State Senate passed a resolution to overturn a decision earlier this year by the Civil Service Commission to make health care benefits available to live-in partners. By a vote of 27-9 the Senate voted to overturn the Commission decision to grant benefits to domestic partners of state employees.
The coverage is intended to provide benefits to same sex partners starting October 1st of this year. Negotiated under the previous administration after an earlier attempt to provide the coverage was struck down as unconstitutional under the states marriage amendment.
A similar resolution is pending in the House.
