Buckeye State Rural is a grassroots 527 PAC that grew out of an Indivisible group in Ohio Congressional District 15. We are completely volunteer and raise money to place billboards on commuter routes in the 11 rural counties of CD15. In 2018, we placed five billboards which received 6.7 million views (impressions). We hope that just seeing our message will enhearten Democrats in those areas and open a chink in very red walls.
Why billboards? Rural people are in cars. A lot. Many must commute to larger cities for an hour or more each work day. Drug, grocery, and other stores, doctor’s appointments, and other errands often require driving for many miles. There are surveys of commuters which say that people in cars look at billboards and pay attention to the messages they see.

We are not the only group that has noticed that billboards are a relatively inexpensive way to reach people. ACLU of Ohio has placed 10 billboards around Ohio to inform people that abortion is still legal in our state.
Now the pitch. It takes between $2,000 and $2,500 to place a billboard for three months. Buckeye State Rural hopes to place at least 10 billboards for the three months before the November election. But, reserving the billboards must be done soon before they are taken by local, statewide, and national campaigns, as well as businesses. We won’t reserve billboards if we are not certain to be able to fund them.
Please consider contributing to this year’s billboard campaign with a continuing contribution of $20.20 per month or more. We are also happy to accept larger (of course we are) or smaller monthly or one-time contributions toward this year’s billboard campaign through our ActBlue account.
