The Cleveland Plain Dealer, in an October 15, 2018 article by Sabrina Eaton, reported that recent Federal Election Commission filings show that Jim Jordan’s campaign paid $38,000 to a Virginia public relations firm “to help shoot down allegations” that Jordan knew of Dr. Richard Strauss’s alleged sexual abuse of OSU wrestlers while Jordan was an assistant coach. Jordan is accused of failing to report Strauss’s depravity and the “cesspool of deviancy” that was allowed to take place in Larkins Hall.
Nice try Jim Jordan, but no cigar. For one thing, the combination of your big mouth and little brain did you in, before your PR firm could come to the rescue. If anything, all of this may have made things worse for you.
Jordan, the consummate bully, initially reacted, as one would expect bullies to react when the scandal broke. Deny. Deny. Deny. Then, attack, attack, and attack: His former student/wrestlers, liberals waging a vendetta against him, and the supporters of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who he is attempting to impeach. In a news interview, Jordan talked about the revelation of the scandal and said, “Jeepers, the way it seemed to me was sequenced and choreographed.”
I wrote about this in a prior blog. Jordan’s verbal attacks were the bizarre words of a clueless, self-absorbed clown. This is so, because Jordan thought the whole Dr. Strauss sex scandal at OSU was about him and his wrestlers. Jordan apparently could not understand that Dr. Strauss’s alleged sexual abuse at OSU was nearly all-pervasive, affecting hundreds of students engaged in 15 sports as reported by the university. Jordan’s wrestlers were only a fraction of those involved. Hence, when he tries to blame his “political enemies,” it reflects once more on his fanatical and conspiratorial thinking.
Other items of note in the Plain Dealer article were that Jordan paid the $38,000 PR bill out of his campaign funds. In the old days of politics, campaign donations generally went to buy yard signs, literature and mailings, and radio/ TV spots. But, I guess, ultra-conservative Jim Jordan doesn’t want to return to those rules. I wonder how some of his financial contributors would feel if they knew their money was used to fix him up after this scandal broke.
Also, the Plain Dealer noted Jordan’s campaign spent nearly $6,000 on a dinner for donors at the Trump Hotel in D.C.—a slick move indeed, and another $8,000 for a fundraiser at the Urbana Country Club. This is clearly not a beer and hotdog kind of guy.
In addition, the Plain Dealer noted donations from “Freshway Foods’ Frank and Philip Gilardi, who brought a federal court case to challenge the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that company-provided health insurance include birth control coverage.” I checked the FEC records and found that the election cycle to date reported that these residents of Sidney, Ohio: Frank A. Gilardi, Jr. donated $3,500 to Jordan’s campaign and Philip M. Gilardi donated $3,000. Nothing more needs to be said, here.
Finally, a few days ago, Jordan’s first TV ad hit the district’s airways. My thoughts: “Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” The ad depicted everyday citizens vowing their support for Jordan, as he will fight for them. Then Jordan comes on and says he fights for them.
If he were honest, he would do an ad saying he will fight to take away their Social Security, Medicare, health care, and wipe out educational, environmental, and civil rights gains just for starters. I don’t think his boring drivel will sell. The folks in this district are on to him.
But, Janet Garrett needs your help to make it happen. Election day is just two weeks away. Nate Silver recently upgraded Garrett’s chances of winning.
When Jordan goes down, this will be the mid-term’s biggest upset, and you can be a part of it! Donald Trump isn’t on the ballot, but Trump’s clone, Jim Jordan, is. Janet needs your financial and volunteer help to win! Please visit her website at the bottom of this blog. Please contribute to her campaign now. It’s now or never.
At this time, I wish to thank the readers of my series of blogs on Jordan. I appreciate your sharing and recommending them. I’m now retiring as a blog writer to go door-to-door on Janet Garrett’s behalf.
Again, please visit Janet’s website below and contribute. Most of all: Vote.
