Received this e-mail today from the gubernatorial candidate, Richard Cordray (D. OH), in support of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D. OH) re-election campaign:
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D. OH)
When I was in charge of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, it was my job to make sure the American people were treated fairly in the financial marketplace.
It wasn’t an easy lift. Wall Street has all the lobbyists and lawyers money can buy -- Ohio families and consumers don’t. You won’t be surprised to hear lots of Wall Street lobbyists and lawyers didn’t like me, or my job, or the agency I led. But luckily, we had important allies in the fight. One of the most important was my friend Sherrod Brown -- he always had my back and stood up to make sure people weren’t cheated or mistreated. That’s why I’m writing you today.
When I led the CFPB, we got back $12billionthat Wall Street had taken from those that were cheated and mistreated and put it back where it belonged. But under President Trump, the CFPB is under attack and consumers are getting a raw deal.
That’s why I’m grateful we still have Sherrod to protect Ohioans from the worst of Wall Street. He’s been doing it for a long, long time. He’s a fighter, and when it’s a question of the big guy vs. the little guy, we all know who he’s fighting for.
