Received this e-mail today from Richard Cordray’s (D. OH) gubernatorial campaign:
Every day, 14 Ohioans die from opioid use. The crisis in our state has reached an all-time high, with hundreds of thousands of Ohioans unable to work or otherwise function because of their addiction or a loved one’s addiction.
My opponent in this race has been a failure as Ohio’s top cop. Opioid deaths have tripled on Mike DeWine’s watch, while Republicans in Columbus proceeded to cut funds for the first responders and people in local communities who are fighting the crisis day and night.
Betty and I will be ready to take action as soon as we take the oath of office, but we’ll need a team like this one behind us to get it done.
Add your name and your voice in calling for serious action to end to the opioid crisis in Ohio.
We have a plan to fight back: increase funding for prevention and treatment services, expand support services across departments to help families struggling with addiction, and protect the Medicaid expansion that gives 700,000 Ohioans—including 200,000 who rely on Medicaid for mental health and addiction treatment—access to the care they need.
Mike DeWine would end Medicaid as we know it, putting hundreds of thousands of our neighbors in danger of losing access to health care at the worst time. They will then find their way into our emergency rooms down the road and we all will end up paying for their more costly medical problems. That is the wrong direction for Ohio.
It’s all hands on deck now. Please join us in putting a stop to this disaster.
Thank you,
Rich
