Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D. OH) re-election campaign:

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D. OH)

For years, I’ve pleaded with many lawmakers in the Republican Party to shake themselves free of the gun lobby’s grip and pass common-sense gun safety laws.

In the wake of successive, senseless gun violence tragedies, my fellow Democrats and I fought for an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, and a ban on bump stocks.

Republicans have blocked our efforts. They remain stubbornly resistant and unfailingly loyal to the gun lobby. That includes my opponent, Congressman Jim Renacci, who the NRA just endorsed this week.

But now more than ever, I have hope that things will change. These young adults are mobilizing this generation and the next. They are calling out politicians’ hypocrisy and self-interest -- and millions of Americans are following their lead.

We can’t stop until we break the gun lobby’s stranglehold over too many lawmakers. Add your name and pledge to fight for common-sense gun safety laws until they are passed.

Congress hasn’t done its job. By refusing to compromise on even the most modest gun safety reforms, we’ve failed to protect Americans in the streets, at their places of worship, and in schools. It's unacceptable.

I believe in the right to bear arms, but no one should be able to buy a weapon designed for the battlefield without so much as a background check.

If you’re sick and tired of lawmakers who would rather keep the status quo than cross the gun lobby, you need to stay in this fight until we get the change we’ve been demanding.

Show that you’re not settling for anything less than comprehensive gun safety legislation. Add your name now.

With gratitude,

Sherrod
