Greetings! Since I shared my story with the Daily Kos community a couple of weeks ago, my team and I have been busy all around Ohio’s 15th Congressional District. I’m excited to check in and share with everyone a bit of what I’ve been up to.
On Monday, Tom and I took the girls to Columbus’s Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Breakfast – the largest MLK Day breakfast in the country. We were joined by thousands of elected officials, public servants, faith leaders, community activists, and everyday folks motivated to make a difference.
Being together with so many people who want to help change Ohio for the better was inspiring. Their dedication to service continues to lift me up in my race for U.S. Congress.
Last week, I took my lunch break to go down to the Franklin County Board of Elections to sign out the petitions I need to officially get on the ballot!
I looked forward to picking up those forms since I announced my candidacy for Congress last August. It was a humbling experience – and I’m excited to be one step closer to the primary election in May.
I also got to share pizza in Nelsonville with City Council Member and candidate for State Representative Taylor Sappington and a group of citizens to discuss how we could help create better paying jobs and respond to the opioid epidemic in Athens County.
I learned a lot from these folks in Nelsonville, and am fired up to work together to bring about changes that will help people struggling day in and day out. Representative Steve Stivers (my opponent) has chosen to ignore the issues that matter most to people in Nelsonville, and they deserve a representative in Washington that will listen to them.
As for today, it’s time to get back to work. Since we released our new video (which has been viewed over 900,000 times!), I’ve received over 1,000 emails from folks fired up and ready to go. I’ve been responding to each one myself, and I’m so happy that I’ve been able to connect with so many people.
