Received this e-mail today from Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley’s (D. OH) gubernatorial campaign in support of Lt. Governor Ralph Northam’s (D. VA) gubernatorial campaign:
Lt. Governor Ralph Northam (D. VA)
"Virginia is now the most important place on the U.S. political landscape --and what happens there could decide the fate of the nation."
-- Paul Krugman,New York Times
I wanted to let you know about an election that has me worried -- and it’s happening next week.
Virginia is electing its next governor this Tuesday, and polls have the race tied. Since Virginia is a testing ground for far-right legislation, the issues on the line will also affect Ohio -- especially women’s and reproductive rights.
Your donation will be split between my campaign and Virginia Democrat Ralph Northam to help us elect a network of governors who will stand up to Trump and other anti-woman extremists.
As a woman, I know that the choice of when and if to have children is one of the main economic issues for more than half of the population. But for the past few years, the Virginia and Ohio state legislatures have been competing to see who can come up with the most draconian regulations to punish women.
From Ohio’s 20-week abortion ban and Virginia’s attempted transvaginal ultrasound bill to Ohio’s upcoming second attempt to ban abortion as early as 6 weeks, when many women don’t know they’re pregnant, the attacks keep coming.
The Democrat in Virginia’s race, Ralph Northam, is a doctor, a veteran, and a champion of women’s rights. He was a leader in finally defeating Virginia’s transvaginal ultrasound bill, and he proudly supports expanding access to IUDs, one of the most effective methods of contraception.
Every progressive I know is hoping and praying that Ralph wins this tied race. But hoping and praying aren’t enough -- Democrats across the country need to take action to make it happen. Have you done your part for Virginia yet?
