Received this e-mail today from former Rep. Betty Sutton’s (D. OH) gubernatorial campaign:
Betty Sutton (D. OH)
Trumpcare may be dead for now, but another healthcare crisis looms.
This time, it’s about the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which covers children and pregnant women. CHIP covers 9 million children nationwide and 223,583 in Ohio alone—or, at least, it did before Congress allowed the program to expire this pastSaturday.
Now, they’re trying to bring it back—and they’re proposing that we pay for it with deep cuts to Medicare.
This never should have happened in the first place. CHIP is a broadly popular bill with bipartisan support, and many of our families depend on it. But pitting one form of healthcare against another is hardly a solution.
My record on healthcare is simple and consistent. As a member of Congress, I consistently voted for CHIP and its expansion. I also consistently fought for the ACA and widespread access to healthcare without discrimination. I’m prepared to stand up to DC politicians and fight for Ohioans as governor.
