OH-Sen: Sherrod Brown (D) Keeps Up Momentum To Protect The ACA & Medicaid Expansion

Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D. OH) re-election campaign:

Senate Republicans are pushing forward with a plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act and make major cuts to Medicaid just 5 days shy of the 52nd Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid.

One of our most significant victories in the Affordable Care Act was expanding Medicaid so millions more working class Americans could access quality care. They could receive routine check-ups, preventative services, and treatment for mental illness and addiction. In Ohio, Medicaid expansion gave health care access to 700,000 residents.

We can't let Senate Republicans turn this week into the beginning of the end of Medicaid as we know it.

We need to protect the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion. Help us get to 10,052 signatures by the 52nd anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid on July 30th.

Rolling back Medicaid Expansion and making large funding cuts to Medicaid is especially reckless given that Ohio -- like many other states around the country -- is in the midst of a major opioid addiction crisis.

In Ohio, opioid-related deaths rose 775% over a 13 year period. This crisis is ravaging families and overwhelming community support networks. It’s claiming the lives of mothers and fathers, sons and daughters. Addiction knows no political party. It’s a problem that we all have to tackle together.

Ending Medicaid expansion would weaken our efforts to address the opioid crisis. It would limit treatment for those who are literally fighting for their lives.

Medicaid has never been so important to struggling communities. I refuse to turn my back on them. Add your name to protect Medicaid as we approach its 52nd Anniversary.

With gratitude,

Sherrod
