Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D. OH) re-election campaign:
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D. OH)
Candidate Trump promised to address the opioid epidemic. President Trump, on the other hand, is using the crisis as an opportunity to help his friends at Big Pharma.
Trump’s nominee for FDA chief Scott Gottlieb has a cozy relationship with Big Pharma, and once tried to push more opioid drugs into the market -- the exact opposite of what doctors say we need.
The opioid epidemic is getting worse. Overdoses kill more Ohioans than car accidents. In one county, the coroner’s office literally ran out of room and had to use “temporary storage” at local funeral homes.
And opioid addiction is disproportionately affecting blue-collar workers -- the kind of people who sacrifice their knees and their shoulders and their backs so they can earn a decent living for their families; the folks whose careers often lead to the kind of chronic aches and pains that leave them seeking pain relief in the first place.
Those people include a lot of Ohioans who voted for Candidate Trump’s promises. They need some help, not empty words.
