Multiple media outlets, including the Columbus Dispatch, the Dayton Daily News, and the Lima News, are reporting that a mayor right here in Ohio has been cheating taxpayers and workers to benefit his friends.
This brand of politics, where the rich and powerful are able to lean on their friends in office to bypass laws and cheat taxpayers and workers has to end.
Ohio’s prevailing wage law has effectively protected workers and provided contractors - and other taxpayers - with a more sustainable workforce for decades. The payment of prevailing wages is responsible for the availability of highly trained workers and quality construction of public buildings.
Yet according to reports, a mayor in our state has been sidestepping this law to the benefit of his friends. This behavior is not only potentially illegal -- it also hurts Ohioans.
On behalf of working families who play by the rules and Ohio taxpayers, I’m urging Attorney General Mike DeWine to take action by investigating these claims of violations of Ohio’s prevailing wage law, as well as any other tactics being used to cheat Ohio workers or misuse tax dollars.
