Red State Resistance is a new DK community. What does it mean to be living, working and resisting in the heart of conquered territory? How do we build an effective resistance?
Our focus will be on the challenges we face as Democratic activists in one-party Republican states:
- What is the most effective way to #Resist! in a Republican enclave?
- What can we do to change the conversation locally?
- How do we interact with our Republican MoCs?
I believe, as do many others around the country, that those of us living and working among Republicans and Libertarians have something specific to offer to the national Democratic conversation right now, although we’re still not exactly sure what that looks like so let’s figure it out together.
- What’s working here that may work where you live?
- What are you doing that might effect change in my town?
- What are the most effective techniques in the Indivisible guide?
Personally I am beyond cynical about the TeaPartiers or true believer Dominionists in our midst. Let them do their own thing. #Resistance is the best we can manage.
My sense of possibility shifted the minute I found the map at the top of this post. Suddenly I no longer saw that sea of red as the enemy, but as a beating heart full of life and potential for a renewed America. I used to feel alone in Indiana. Now I see that there are tens of thousands of us just waiting to be activated. I couldn’t see us before. Now I do.
There are good people all around us who may have voted for Republicans all their lives but have been shocked into silence.
- How do we talk to shell shocked, socially liberal Republicans?
- How do we talk to our families? neighbors? co-workers?
- What are the most effective ways to go live with a Facebook group
We will be posting and hosting and talking face-to-face as much as possible through live, interactive, online conversations in real time.
Let’s celebrate our successes and find the gold in our mistakes.
Together.
