Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D. OH):
Deborah Ross (D. NC)
July 2016 was the hottest month on record. Not just the hottest July -- the hottest of any month dating back to the late 1800s. It also marked the 15th consecutive month of record heat.
Climate change is real, it’s a problem, and we need to take action to address it. But as long as climate change deniers inhabit Washington, we won’t make much progress.
November 8th is our chance to change that. It’s our chance to fill the halls of Congress with Democrats committed to tackling climate change. And it’s our chance to make sure the White House goes to a courageous leader who makes protecting our environment a priority.
We only have a few weeks left before votes are cast -- and even less time in states with early voting. For the next 48 hours we’re pulling out all the stops for a fundraising GreenStorm. We’re going to help raise $500,000 for four top candidates: Hillary Clinton, Catherine Cortez Masto, Katie McGinty, Deborah Ross and Ted Strickland.
Addressing climate change should not be so difficult. A huge majority of environmental scientists agree that our Earth is warming due to human activity. Nearly 200 countries around the globe agree there are steps we can and must take to combat this threat.
Republicans in Washington seem like the last people on the planet who won’t acknowledge the reality of climate change. And just in case you’re wondering why: follow the money.
Over the years, the Koch brothers have funneled millions to climate-change-denial groups that work to stop policies designed to combat climate change before they can become law. And now their special interest network is spending millions of dollars to elect their favorite candidates.
The Kochs aren’t the only ones, either. The Karl Rove-backed One Nation has spent $4.8 million in Ohio to take down climate champion Ted Strickland, $2.3 million to defeat Catherine Cortez Masto in Nevada, over $1 million against Deborah Ross in North Carolina and another $2.7 million to beat Katie McGinty in Pennsylvania.
You get what you pay for. These groups are paying to elect climate change-deniers and stall efforts to protect our environment. And the only way to fight against them is with strong grassroots support.
