I sing of love and of a girl in a distant land…
Early in my high school years I went to summer camp and met a girl with flaxen hair and a winning smile. Our camp ran down to a clear lake, and we lived among flowers and went canoeing. In the modern world we might have done more, but this was when I was in high school, and that was so very, very long ago.
I fell fast in love with my new friend, and she responded, but then camp ended, and we returned to our respective Ohio towns. Soon, she was moving on to a new relationship. Given I had no job, no car, and at the time, no future, I was not in a position to argue. Innocence lost, I steeled myself to a fate where I would never see her again.
Sigh.
But I did see her again.
Femina adamata, tibi gratias ago.
