In America today, you'd think that it would be a challenge to further damage the relationship between African-Americans and law enforcement. We live in a country in which the present rate at which police kill people of color mirrors that of those lynched during Jim Crow.
Yet, even with all this going on, there's still some presumption that these persistent police killings are the result of incompetence, rather than intent. Then you realize that as much as America rightly fixates on cop killers. We also need to be asking whether we have a killer cop problem in this country, when this is the sort of person that is being recruited by law enforcement.

Let's be clear, I do think that most police officers are dedicated public servants doing their best to keep everyone safe, but when you see that people like this have made their way into uniform, it raises all sorts of questions. Like whether the federal government needs to be in charge of running pre-hire background checks and any investigation into police misconduct.
