This past November saw control of the Maine Legislature swing to Republicans, after Democrats had been in power for years (in the case of the Maine House, for 30 years). This, combined with Maine's new Tea Party Republican Gov. Paul LePage, means that conservatives have a good chance to pass legislation that would not have seen the light of day previously.
Rep. Tyler Clark (R-Easton), the youngest Republican in the Maine Legislature, has sponsored a bill that would require a 24-hour waiting period prior to all abortions. LD116 reads in part:
