But as governor, Ed will invest in Ohio's children and make sure every family has the opportunity to enroll their littlest ones in a Pre-K program. It's the first step in making sure Ohio has an education system that prepares our students for the 21st century economy.
Pre-K has been shown to put kids ahead in reading, writing, and math. Pre-K’s positive effects can continue to rollover into grade school, high school, and beyond. Ed believes Ohio kids deserve every opportunity we can afford to give them, and that starts with Pre-K.

On average -- 28% of U.S. 4-year-olds are enrolled in state-funded Pre-K. That’s 14-times Ohio’s rate of just 2%. And we’re falling behind other states -- Tennessee and Oklahoma have taken Pre-K seriously and are seeing significant learning increases because of the investment.
It’s also not just a matter of getting kids enrolled but also making sure they receive a quality education when they arrive. In Ohio, Pre-K teachers are not required to have a 4-year bachelor’s degree. Research has shown that higher degrees mean better learning for kids.
Ohio’s kids are no longer just competing with our neighboring states for jobs. It’s important that they can compete in the global economy, and Pre-K will give them a critical boost.
Ed believes in making Ohio work for everyone -- and Pre-K is a crucial part of his plan.
