Talk about free stuff. The Wood County Sheriff Department in Bowling Green, Ohio just received a $650,000 MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle from the U.S. Army.

According to the Bowling Green Sentinel Tribune, "They were able to acquire the vehicle due to the multi-jurisdictional nature of the agency, and the fact that the SRT is listed as a first-wave responder should an incident occur at the Davis-Besse nuclear power plant in Oak Harbor."

There was no mention in the article that the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station is 45 miles (56 minutes according to the Google) away from Bowling Green. This is what they consider "a first-wave response" to a threat on a nuclear plant?

The Sentinel article pointed out that the gun turret removal and other modifications were paid for from a drug forfeiture fund.

The MRAP can withstand a 50-caliber machine gun or a rocket-propelled grenade. A commentor on the story posted...

Finally. A vehicle to deal with Wood County's rampant rocket propelled grenade problem.
So, dear readers, are you aware of any other small communities like BG (31,000 population,  Wood Co. 120,000) receiving advanced military hardware from the federal government for free?
