If you believe in the the tooth fairy then you will like what Rep Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) tells C-Span host, Greta Wodele Brawner, on her talk show Jan 16, 2014. What we have here is a Congresswoman who believes in "restoring confidence in the markets." For her, it is so important to ensure the well being of Wall Street. I am sure they deeply appreciate her efforts.
However, when it comes time to discuss the well being of retired veterans she sees things differently. She tries to gloss over the partial repeal of the veteran retirement Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) cut that was passed in the omnibus bill. She stealthily tried to sound as if the problem was solved. Fixed. "Taken care of," she says. But when Greta pressed her, she acknowledged the COLA cut was restored only to disabled vets. The rest of you military veterans who earned your pension, too bad.
What is most appalling Congress, as an institution, hates transparency. Rep Marcy gloats over the fact the budget was crafted in backroom deals away from public scrutiny. That is how legislation is passed in communist countries.
What was not said by Rep Marcy is most revealing. She demonstrates the utter disdain some members of Congress have towards segments of the veteran community.
She made it clear she favors taking money away from military retirees to help out her donor friends.
Congress must realize their days of deception, and getting away with it, are over.
No more confidence fairy. No more shilling for big business under the disguise of trickle down economics. And no more ripping off military veterans!
