You can more info on the march next week here:Next Wednesday marks the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. As we celebrate all this achievement and the ongoing work in the 50 years since that march, we recognize that there is still more work to do.Under the leadership of A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin, along with civil rights and religious groups, the historic March on Washington shed light on the political and social inequities inherent in the laws of the United States. The result of this hard work was the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 - landmark laws that changed how people of all races and gender are treated.
This Saturday, August 24th 2013, I will be in Washington, D.C. at the "National Action to Realize the Dream March" to march with other great leaders, activist, advocates, young leaders and families to celebrate the progress of 50 years, and also to reflect on what we can all do personally to ensure another 50 years of progress.The fight goes on for equality and justice in the areas of education, voting rights, workers rights; women's rights, LGBT equality and immigration, and we all have a part to play. We must, in spite of our differences, care for one another because what effects one; effects us all. We are better together.
I am marching for our progress, our change, our future; I am marching for our families, our communities, our state and this great nation. I am marching for you.
