Received this e-mail today from former Governor Ted Strickland (D. OH) in support of Ed Fitzgerald's (D. OH) gubernatorial campaign:
I want to talk to you about my friend Ed FitzGerald, and why I’m ready to do everything I can to make sure he’s our next Governor.

We’re both from large families and the second youngest, but Ed got off easy. I had eight brothers and sisters holding me accountable for every one of my mishaps and missteps, Ed only had seven! Growing up in families like ours, I know Ed learned the importance of hard work, responsibility, and looking out for one another. And it shows.

Starting as an FBI special agent, and continuing as an assistant prosecutor, Lakewood mayor, and county executive, Ed’s brought down corrupt politicians, cleaned up government, and made sure government works for the middle class. Ed’s displayed the sort of dedication to a lifetime of public service and improving the lives of others that a Governor must possess.

I’m proud to endorse Ed because he has the courage never to stop fighting for the causes that count, like protecting working families, women, seniors, and so many more.

Friends, you were always very generous and supportive of me and I hope you will be equally supportive of Ed.  He is a great guy and he will be a great Governor. What a contrast; Ed FitzGerald vs John Kasich.  That ought to make all of us want to get involved in this race.  So lets show Ed we’re with him by investing in his campaign through a $20 contribution today.

One look at what’s coming out of the Statehouse, and you can tell Ohio’s middle class is in trouble:

Sales and property tax increases to pay for lavish handouts to the wealthy and well-connected? Cuts to the bone for public safety, police, fire, and schools? An unprecedented assault on women’s health care access?

Voters didn’t ask for these mean-spirited attacks, and Ed FitzGerald will put an end to them once he’s Governor.

This campaign is just getting started. Make a contribution of $20 right now to show Ed that you’ve got his back today, tomorrow, and all the way through 2014.

With your help, we’re going to make Ed FitzGerald Ohio’s next Governor.

Ted

PS. I can’t wait to see you out on the trail. But before then, please join me in making a contribution of $20 to Ed to make sure he has the resources he needs as the campaign begins. It’s important.
