A small village in Ohio is going to be without a local police department for at least three days. After reports that a cop used his taser on a nine-year-old boy, the town of Mount Sterling, just southwest of Columbus, shut down its entire police force.
Village Administrator Joe Johnson refused to release the report on what the village is calling “an incident involving use of force.” Mayor Charlie Neff said in a prepared statement only that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been asked to investigate what happened.The incident happened on Tuesday, but police chief Mike McCoy--the only full-timer in the department--didn't report it. As a result, town officials didn't find out about it until the next day--and from a neighboring town's police department, according to WBNS-TV in Columbus. The mayor was so angry that he suspended McCoy for three days and sent the officers home. At least until tonight's village council meeting, Madison County sheriff's deputies will handle law enforcement duties.Madison County Prosecutor Steve Pronai, however, said police were called on Tuesday to an apartment on S. Market Street in the Madison County village. The caller, Michelle Perry, said her son, Jared, refused to go to school. From there, Pronai said he doesn’t know much about it except that the situation escalated and Officer Scott O’Neil used his Taser.
Pronai had little information beyond that, and said BCI will handle it moving forward.
