5:50 PM PT (Jed Lewison): "It's one thing to have a lot of money, it's another thing to lie with it." Newt was talking about Mitt, but he's every bit as dishonest, and he's got way more money than Rick Santorum.
5:54 PM PT (Jed Lewison): "I don't believe the Romney technique" of money bombing the opposition will defeat Barack Obama. Well, I agree with Newt. But his alternative strategy—stalking Obama and begging for debates—is even worse.
5:54 PM PT: Gingrich clings to that thing that carried him for a while -- that he would be the best debate opponent against Obama. Conservatives actually believed that, that is, until Gingrich lost a debate against Romney and Santorum. Then lost a second one.
5:55 PM PT (David Nir): In the OH-02 Republican primary between Rep. Jean Schmidt and podiatrist/military vet Brad Wenstrup, only 3% of the vote has come in on the AP's site, but that includes a big batch of early votes, and the two are tied at 47 apiece, with a 30-vote Schmidt edge.
5:55 PM PT (Jed Lewison): Newt says he's moving on to Kansas, Alabama, and Mississippi. I have to figure he's going to be competitive in at least Alabama and Mississippi.
5:57 PM PT (David Nir): I don't know why it took so long, but NBC is calling Oklahoma for Rick Santorum. Presumably the other networks will follow suit.
5:59 PM PT (David Nir): A manual cavass of six of the counties that make up OH-02 find Schmidt 50, Wenstrup 42 in the OH-02 (R) primary. Undoubtedly the AP's count is behind.
5:59 PM PT (Jed Lewison): Newt Gingrich's speech reminds of something that James Carville once said about Ross Perot: This is the greatest single act of masturbation in the history of humanity.

6:01 PM PT (Jed Lewison): CNN mercifully breaks away from Newt's speech.
6:02 PM PT (David Nir): The election-day (as opposed to early) votes are finally trickling in in the OH-03 Dem primary, and Mary Jo Kilroy leads Joyce Beatty by just 40 votes.
6:03 PM PT (David Nir): Don't look now, but Santorum's taken the lead in Ohio, 38-37 over Romney, with 11.5% reporting.
6:04 PM PT (Jed Lewison): Holy crap. Fox still carrying Newt's long speech. He is now saying "we have developed so much natural gas." I shit you not. Direct quote. And he's fucking proving it.
6:07 PM PT (Kaili Joy Gray): More liveblogging here.
