Dear Congressman Renacci,
In recent days, the Republican talk show host Rush Limbaugh has characterized the Georgetown law student who gave testimony to Congress in favor of comprehensive preventative health care coverage for women as a "slut".
To add insult to injury, Mr Limbaugh suggested that Ms. Fluke was a prostitute and made even more reprehensible suggestions about the morality of this young woman.
By making these statements, Mr. Limbaugh, a well known conservative talk show host, has associated the Republican party, the Republican majority in Congress, and you with this hateful speech.
While persons of good will may disagree about the proper role of government in setting standards for health care coverage, in the words of Georgetown University president John J. DeGioia:
One need not agree with her substantive position to support her right to respectful free expression. And yet, some of those who disagreed with her position – including Rush Limbaugh and commentators throughout the blogosphere and in various other media channels – responded with behavior that can only be described as misogynistic, vitriolic, and a misrepresentation of the position of our student.I would like to know your position on this matter:
Do you repudiate the statements of Rush Limbaugh?
Do you support comprehensive preventative health care for women including contraceptive care?
Stated simply, whose side are you on? Rush Limbaugh's? Or women's?
I look forward to your response
